My personal experience

A week and a half after achieving Solutions Architect Associate certification, I took the Dev Associate and SysOps Associate exams.

My paths to these three certifications were all very much tied together, and I will refer you to, rather than repeat, what I already wrote about "My Path to Solutions Architect Associate". That's where I described my approach to learning AWS.

Here are some of the topics from my SysOps Associate exam:
·
  • How best to structure billing alarms to ensure spending across an organization is under control.
  • Resource tagging and whether it allows CloudWatch to aggregate across regions. (It doesn't: "CloudWatch does not aggregate data across regions. Therefore, metrics are completely separate between regions."
  • Aggregating Statistics Across Instances .
  • However, "If you manage resources in multiple regions, you can create a resource group to view resources from different regions on the same screen." -- What Are Resource Groups?)
  • What happens to data on instance stores. (It disappears, of course.)
  • Services with turnkey automated backups. (For ex, EC2/EBS snapshots are not automated by AWS.)
  • Using an EBS volume during a snapshot. (You can use it normally after the snapshot has started; waiting for it to complete is unnecessary.)
  • Disabling Source/Destination check was a red herring option in one question. :)
  • Instance types!
  • Utilization Reserved Instances work.
  • With regard to the exam structure, I noticed that one of the multi-response questions clarified that the two expected responses should each independently address the requirements. This really stuck out to me because there were several other questions where it was not at all clear whether they wanted the multiple expected responses to work together or to stand alone. It seemed to me that this SysOps exam had the largest number of poorly-worded and outdated questions, out of the three associate exams.

Topics

1.Monitoring and Metrics
2.High Availability
3.Analysis
4.Deployment and Provisioning
5.Data Management
6.Security

7.Networking

Prerequisites :

1)  Understanding of cloud computing.
2)  Microsoft / Linux Essentials
3)  Networking Essentials
4)  Working Knowledge of Virtualization.
5)  Storage Fundamentals

Important topics  of  SysOps Administration certification :

  • In-Depth VPC Configuration.
  • Configuring Elastic Load Balancer.
  • Auto Scaling.
  • Route 53
  • Working with IAM

Amazon VPC resources :

  • VPCs.
  • Subnets

                IP Address Blocks :
    • AWS reserves 5 addresses per subnet.
    • Select IP prefix.
    • CIDR 16 - 28.
    • Single Region, Multi - AZ ( Availability zones).

  • Network ACLs
  • Security Groups
  • VPC  peering connections
  • VPN Connections
  • End Points
  • Internal Gateways
  • Route Tables
  • Elastic IPs
  • Running Instances.
  • Virtual Private Gateways
  • Customer Gateways

What is VPC(Virtual Private Cloud) ?

1)  Logically isolated network in the AWS cloud.
2)  Control of network architecture
3)  Enhanced Security.
4)  Internetwork with other organizations.
5)  Elastic IP Address(public IPs).
6)  Enable hybrid cloud ( site-to-site VPN).
7)  Single tenant dedicated server hardware.
8)  VPC cost = $0/VPN  cost is $0.05/hr

Selecting VPC configurations :

  • VPC with a Single Public Subnet.
    •  IP CIDR Block
    • VPC name
    • Public subnet    -  Eg :  192.168.1.0.0/24
    • Availability Zone
    • Subnet Name
    • Add endpoints for S3 to your subnets.
    • Enable DNS hostnames
    • Hardware tenancy.

  • VPC with Public and Private Subnets.
  • VPC with Public and Private Subnets and Hardware VPN Access.
  • VPC with a Private Subnet only and Hardware VPN Access.

Configuring Auto Scaling :

1)  Elasticity
2)  Bootstrapping / Dynamic Configuration
3)
